OUR AIM

Volunteers committed with those most vulnerable people to their access to energy

We are an NGO of volunteers committed to the well-being of the most vulnerable people, a platform of the civil society that wants to work for the development of those most disfavoured and isolated by means of our experience and capacity of action in the access to energy. We consider this a fundamental aim for the consecution of other human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals according to the 2030 Agenda

MISSION:

To carry out programs and projects for providing access to energy in the most vulnerable areas

Contribute to the full exercise of the rights of those most vulnerable, supplying access to affordable, sure and sustainable energy, water and sanitation services through programs, projects, studies and training and advisory activities and other initiatives, in collaboration with partners, friends and other actors that share the goal of achieving a fairer and more equal society

VISION:

To increase Esf’s impact by means of programs and key alliances

We are specialised in SDG 6 and 7 (Water and Energy). Esf is a strong organisation, committed and technically and managerially capable that can increase its support for vulnerable people to improve their quality of life and achieve a fair and sustainable development.

We can get more impact by way of structuring our projects in programs focused in unfavourable areas and joining other organisations with the same objectives.

Why are we committed to SDG 7: ‘AFFORDABLE AND NON-POLLUTANT ENERGY’?

– 13% of the world’s population still does not have access to modern electricity services.

– 3 billion people rely on wood, coal, charcoal or animal waste for cooking and heating food.

– Energy is the major contributor to climate change, accounting for about 60% of all global greenhouse gas emissions.

– Indoor air pollution from the use of fuels for household energy caused 4.3 million deaths in 2012, 6 out of 10 of these were women and girls.

– In 2015, just over 17.5% of global energy consumption was from renewable energy.

 Why are we committed to SDG 6: ‘CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION’?

– 3 out of 10 people lack access to safe drinking water, and 6 out of 10 people lack access to safely managed sanitation facilities.

– At least 892 million people continue the unsafe practice of open defecation [defecation in public spaces].

–  In 80 % of households without access to piped water, women and girls are responsible for collecting water.

– Between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of the world’s population using a purified drinking water source rose from 76% to 90%.

– Water scarcity affects more than 40 % of the world’s population and this percentage is expected to increase. More than 1.7 billion people now live in river basins where water consumption exceeds replenishment.

– 2.4 billion people lack access to basic sanitation facilities such as toilets or latrines.

– More than 80% of wastewater resulting from human activities is discharged into rivers or the sea without treatment, causing pollution.

– Every day, about 1000 children die from diarrhoeal diseases linked to poor hygiene.

– Approximately 70% of all water extracted from rivers, lakes and aquifers is used for irrigation.

– Floods and other water-related disasters account for 70% of all deaths related to natural disasters.
